USE OF THE CLUB LASERS & HELM TICKET/TEST
The RAHBC has 18 Club Lasers for use by members or invited guests. Helm tickets
are required to be allowed to sail them.
This spreadsheet lists those
that have a Laser
helm tickets and contains names of examiners who can be
approached for an exam. Remember, practice is required to become an
experienced helm. PRACTICING IS ALLOWED IN AGREEMENT WITH ONE OF
THE EXAMINERS, IN LIGHT WINDS IN THE BAY ONLY, SUBJECT TO APPROVAL OF ONE OF THE
BOATSMEN.
To qualify for a Laser helm ticket, one has to:
1. Know all parts of the boat.
2. Be able to rig/de-rig the Laser and tie all relevant knots.
3. Launch the Laser and leave the beach safely.
4. Sail all points of sailing.
5. Tack and gibe.
6. Recover the boat after a capsize.
7. Return the boat to the beach safely.
8. Know the basic rules on the water.
Having passed the RAHBC Laser helm test, the helm will be issued a Laser
Ticket which has to be placed on the board in the winch room.
To take out a Club Laser, one has to:
1. Approach the Boatman, who will check your possession of a Laser helm
ticket
2. Sign in the
Laser log book and take a sail and 3 sail battens
3. Rig the Laser.
A maximum of two children, or one adult and one child is permitted
on a Club Laser. When the helm is a child under the age of 16, entry must be made by
the child's parent or supervisor, who should be a full member or associate
member of RAHRC.
A LIFE JACKET IS MANDATORY AT ALL TIMES
WHEN SAILING.
When you are finished sailing:
1. Clean the Laser (BOAT AND SAIL) with fresh water, de-rig,
let the sail dry and return it
gently folded.
2. Sign out the boat and report any damage to the boatsman and write it in
the logbook
